Cardiac specialist praises care in Reading

A man who specialises in heart treatments has praised the services in the area he works.
Consultant cardiologist Dr Charlie McKenna said his team at the Royal Berkshire Hospital have created an offering that is the most efficient in the south-central region, the Reading Post reports.
He added: "We expect to expand and have in fact just employed another consultant and will expect to see the team increase over time as we receive patients from across east and west Berkshire."
According to the medical professional, there are many rumours that heart surgery facilities are to be centralised in specialist units.
However, if this happens the Royal Berkshire Hospital should be one of the enlarged centres, he predicted.
Recently, the hospital - which houses more than 800 inpatient beds and employs over 4,000 staff members - celebrated completing its 200th primary angioplasty procedure.
This was only 12 months after the service had been launched at the unit.
