ODPs may benefit from new safety tray

Operating department practitioners (ODPs) are among the medical professionals who may welcome the development of a new piece of equipment.
A safety tray designed by Vernacare has been launched and it is intended to reduce surgical room errors and advance standards of infection prevention, the Nursing Times reports.
The Vernatray is intended to replace the flat plastic and stainless steel anaesthetic trays where medication is stored in a single compartment.
Commenting on the new version, senior product manager at the firm Paula Cockcroft said: "It makes it easier for theatre staff to locate the relevant equipment and reduces the risk of incorrect medication being administered."
So far, evaluation of the offering has been conducted at three health trusts and one independent hospital.
Recently, Vale Hospital had new technology produced by Smith & Nephew installed in two operating theatres and staff began using the revamped facilities at the start of this month, Private Healthcare UK reported.
