Speech therapist describes facility as "fantastic"

A speech therapist has praised a new £25,000 sensory room and play area for autistic children opened at a school in South Tyneside.
The facility was created after charity The Lord's Taverners discovered Jarrow School in Field Terrace, Jarrow wanted to develop a sensory area and garden for some of its pupils.
It is hoped the facility will benefit autistic children at the establishment, offering them multi-sensory areas which will help enhance their future prospects and develop their communication skills.
Speaking to the Jarrow and Hebburn Gazette, centre manager and speech therapist Julianne Macrae said: "This is a fantastic facility that allows our children to play and socialise together."
Matthew Patten, chief executive of The Lord's Taverners, said: "We are proud to support the staff, parents and young people of Jarrow School."
The Lord's Taverners charity was founded in 1950 by actors in the Tavern at Lord's Cricket Ground.
It aims to help young people with learning difficulties and disabilities to enjoy sport and leisure activities, particularly cricket.
