Register as an Dietitian
Tuesday 8th June 2010
A clinic based in Scotland has had to recruit additional members of staff, including a dietician, in order to cope with rising demand.
The Priory, which is located in Edinburgh, used to run for half a day a week but bosses decided that due to a swell in interest from people keen to use its services, it must stay open longer, the Scotsman reports.
One of the factors cited for the increase in patients using the provision is said to be the recession, as this has had an impact on individuals' psychological wellbeing.
Dr Alex Yellowlees from the facility commented: "We have seen a large increase because of people suffering stress, anxiety and depression because of unemployment and financial pressure."
Now, the clinic is operating five days a week, he went on to point out.
Meanwhile, Linda Irvine, strategic programme manager for mental health and wellbeing at NHS Lothian, added that money or relationship problems can lead to mental ill-health.
She went on to note that NHS Lothian - which operates on an annual budget of around £1 billion - has seen a rise in demand for psychological services.
