Refer an Cardiac Physiologist
Tuesday 8th June 2010
The Hafod Eryri visitor centre on Snowdon's summit has been fitted with equipment designed to help people who have suffered a heart attack.
Able to give patients a shock to jolt their hearts back into action, the device is intended to be used before people can get access to a cardiac physiologist.
Part of the national public access defibrillator scheme, it can be used to provide assistance until emergency services arrive.
Commenting on the decision to install one, senior engineering manager with the Snowdon Railway Doug Blair said: "These machines are getting to be quite common and we thought this would be a good place to put one."
He went on to note that it is about the size of a shoe box and its tells users when to do everything.
In addition, it will not shock healthy people, Mr Blair noted.
Heart attacks affect around 111,000 individuals in England alone each year, NHS figures suggest.
