Hygiene worries raised in Kent hospitals

Individuals in UK medical jobs may be interested in the results of a survey that suggests staff in Kent hospitals may be failing to follow hygiene rules.
As reported by Kent Online, the covert study - carried out by volunteers from independent watchdog groups Kent and Medway Links - found that only one in six members of staff at the Darent Valley Hospital in Dartford cleaned their hands with sanitiser gel when entering wards.
The facility has a workforce made up of some 1,900 people.
In addition, it showed just one in four did so at Kent and Canterbury Hospital.
Visitors too neglected the complementary soap, with compliance levels as low as 13 per cent in Maidstone Hospital.
Commenting on the findings, project leader and report author John Fletcher said: "There do appear to be groups of people who consider the dispensers are there for others and not them, including delivery people, porters and to a large extent, the public."
