Refer an Cardiac Physiologist
Thursday 20th May 2010
A man has spoken out in support of a campaign being run by the British Heart Foundation (BHF) concerning the provision of cardiac equipment.
The charity wants to get more defibrillators into local communities and Alan Jones has said such a move is necessary, the BBC reports.
He was treated by such a device during the Faenol Festival in 2007.
His heart stopped beating, nearly causing him to die. However, two nurses were present and gave him CPR.
Eventually, ambulance staff got to him and used the defibrillator. This, Mr Jones claimed, saved his life.
He stated: "Heart disease is one of the biggest killers and when it happens you only have four to five minutes to do something, otherwise massive damage is done."
According to the BHF - which was founded in 1961 by a group of medical professionals - many of the 70,000 people killed in Britain every year by sudden cardiac arrest could be saved if defibrillators were close by.
