New sterile services unit to open

People with sterile services jobs are to begin working in a new facility at a medical centre located on the Isle of White.
St Mary's Hospital is to open the Hospital Sterilisation and Decontamination Unit, which cost £4.5 million to complete, the Isle of Wight County Press reports.
The decision to create the unit was made after the medical centre failed to meet decontamination standards.
It will process all re-usable medical equipment and instruments, making sure they are clean and sterile to the highest level possible.
Isle of Wight Primary Care Trust was criticised for its decontamination standards in 2009.
The organisation, which employs around 3,000 members of staff, is due to open the service before the end of the month
Commenting on the progress, Hilary Male, who will manage the department, said: "We are working with contractors to finalise this major project and all the key equipment is installed and being tested."
