Register as an Dietitian
Monday 10th May 2010
Dieticians may want to advise parents to get creative when trying to make their children eat healthily, it has been claimed.
According to Ian Marber, founder of the Food Doctor, it is important to find novel ways to display fruit and vegetables and incorporate them into other things.
He noted that it is generally easier to persuade youngsters to consume fruit because it is more colourful.
It can be mixed into yogurts or made into purees and compotes, Mr Marber went on to point out.
However, it can be hard to persuade kids to be healthy when there are sweet things to select, he added.
"I think children like fruit but when it's a choice between confectionary, chocolate or fruit, kids tend to choose the sugared alternatives," he claimed.
His comments came after the University of Bristol released research that suggested the recent rise in childhood obesity is stabilising in developed nations.
