Welsh pharmacy initiatives 'moves a step further'

An initiative involving people with pharmacy jobs in Wales is moving into a new phase.
The scheme, which involves the use of the electronic transfer of prescriptions and of the NHSmail service, is to ramp up its requirements for participants, EHI Primary Care reports.
At present, those involved can claim £200 a month in expenses if they use the programme.
However, as of September this year, they will no longer be able to claim unless they take part in phase two.
This will include an electronic transmission of claims facility, NHS Wales complaint email service and the use of a 2D-barcoded prescription service.
According to the Primary Care Informatics Programme - which recently combined with Informing Healthcare as part of a drive to reflect the increasing national integration of IT in Wales - the new arrangements will give pharmacists operating in the country parity with their counterparts across the border in England.
