ODPs involved in new distraction technique

A number of people with operation department practitioner (ODP) jobs are involved in an initiative which is aimed at distracting patients who are having surgery.
Staff at Gartnavel Hospital in Glasgow are asking people if they want to watch a DVD while they are being treated, the BBC reports.
The idea was that of Dr Nick Pace, who works as an anaesthetist at Gartnavel Hospital - which is located in the west of the city and works in close partnership with the Western Infirmary.
It was part of an attempt to reduce the number of individuals who opt for a general anaesthetic rather than just being numbed from the waist down.
He remarked: "We tried music, but after about an hour a lot of patients got distracted and fidgety and we ended up having to give them a general anaesthetic anyway."
Then he came up with the idea of using films instead and this proved more successful.
