Refer an Cardiac Physiologist
Friday 30th April 2010
There has been progress in reducing heart disease, meaning fewer people may need to visit cardiac physiologists.
This is according to Katharine Greathead, lifestyle officer at Heart Research UK, who said that the key risk factors for such health problems are whether a person smokes and their level of physical inactivity.
In addition, eating a balanced diet is another important element in the strategy to combat ill health.
However, more needs to be done to tackle cardiac problems, the expert added.
She remarked: "There has been progress made but I think there are still concerns because the rise in obesity and the increase [in] waist measurements [mean] that there is still a lot of work to be done."
Her comments followed the release of research published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, which suggested that measuring calcium in the coronary arteries could help to predict a person's risk of heart disease.
