Pioneering cardiac op takes place

A ground-breaking cardiac operation has been performed in a medical centre in England.
Specialists at the Glenfield Hospital conducted a procedure that used a new robotic device.
Known as a Remote Catheter Manipulation System, it enables doctors to carry out a common heart treatment remotely using a robotic arm.
Dr Andre Ng successfully corrected an atrial flutter using the technology.
The device cost £325,000 and, in order to use it, surgeons have to enter a special control room.
Dr Ng said: "The new robotic procedure is an important step forward because, while some procedures are straightforward, others can take several hours."
He added that movement of the catheter can be achieved with great precision.
Also, the expert noted that because surgeons do not have to be present in the operating theatre, they are less likely to come into contact with radiation from X-rays.
Glenfield Hospital is located around three miles north-west of Leicester city centre and it currently houses around 520 beds.
