Register as an Dietitian
Monday 12th April 2010
A medical expert has suggested that eating a protein-rich breakfast is beneficial for people's health.
Registered dietician and nutrition consultant Helenbeth Reynolds said that eating products such as eggs in the morning can help lower the risk of overeating throughout the day.
She remarked: "Starting the day with a high-quality protein breakfast like eggs is a great tool to promote long-lasting fullness and reduced calorie consumption."
Her comments follow the release of research published in the February issue of Nutrition Research, which suggested that men who consumed an egg-based breakfast ate significantly fewer calories when offered a lunch buffet compared to when they ate a bagel breakfast of equal calories.
Study author Dr Maria Luz Fernandez said this adds to a growing body of evidence that protein is a good thing to consume in the morning.
Recently, dietician Evelyn Tribole extolled the advantages of omega-3, saying it has significant health benefits.
