North-east hospital project gets go-ahead

Hospital doctor jobs could soon be heading to the north-east, as work is set to get underway on a new facility to serve Hartlepool and east Durham.
According to the Hartlepool Mail, there had been fears over whether or not funding would be given due to the fragile state of the economy, but plans have now been confirmed.
The site of the £46 million hospital is being marked out and a road is being laid down.
Alan Foster, chief executive of North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust, was quoted as saying: "After years of waiting we've had our funding decision and we're absolutely delighted about it. This is a further sign that the new hospital is now within reach."
The trust recently announced that x-ray equipment was being upgraded at Peterlee Community Hospital, with digital images being able to be viewed by doctors at the University Hospital of Hartlepool and the University Hospital of North Tees.
