Welsh pharmacists 'could treat minor ailments'

People with pharmacy jobs in Wales may be set to treat minor ailments, it has been revealed.
Speaking to the Politics Show Wales, Community Pharmacy Wales said such a move would help save the NHS at least £30 million a year.
At present, such services are available in Torfaen and Flintshire and the Welsh Assembly Government - which is the devolved government for the country and was created in 1999 - is monitoring their effectiveness.
According to high street pharmacy manager Paul Harris, the change has been a great success and patients find it beneficial.
He remarked: "Many GP surgeries are closed on the weekend and the pharmacist is often available at times when the GP is not."
Meanwhile, chief executive of Community Pharmacy Wales Russell Goodway pointed out that savings can be made.
According to the expert, an ordinary consultation with a GP costs the NHS around £32, while the same sort of meeting in a community pharmacy costs the health service approximately £17.
