Pharmacists 'play important role in common ailment advice'

People with pharmacy jobs serve an important function in terms of dispensing common ailment advice, it has been stated.
Commenting on the issue, Victoria Steele, lead clinical governance pharmacist at the Co-operative Pharmacy, said that such medical professionals play a "key role" in this respect, Rochdale Online reports.
Her firm - which claims to be the third largest chain of its kind in the UK and dispensed over 60 million prescription in 2008 - saw a rise last year in the number of customers using it for advice over minor sicknesses.
She remarked: "Patients are becoming more interested in managing their own health as they have more access to information, but sometimes they need reassurance."
Ms Steele went on to note that by working more closely with GPs and primary care organisations to provide minor ailment advice, pharmacists are helping to free up the time of doctors - meaning they can deal with more complex cases.
