Podiatrist awarded grant to investigate diabetes

A podiatrist has been successful in securing funding to complete research concerning type 2 diabetes.
Over the next three years, Keith McCormick - who also works at the University of Southampton as a lecturer - will conduct a study into whether fish oil can help to improve the health of those at risk of the condition, This Is Hampshire.net reports.
He will examine the ability of the substance to protect and improve the function of small blood vessels and nerves among those prone to the disease.
Diabetes UK, which describes itself as the largest organisation in the country working for sufferers, is providing £197,122 for the research.
The charity has over 160,000 members and campaigns to improve the lives of people with the condition - which can lead to a range of complications, including amputation of limbs, blindness and kidney disease.
Work is set to begin on the project next month.
