Cardiac patient drug is safe, researchers claim

A drug used among cardiac patients has been identified as safe and effective.
According to researchers at Henry Ford Hospital, Regadenoson does not cause adverse side effects when taken by people who have undergone heart transplants.
The research involved 25 patients and it was found that they did not exhibit abnormally low blood pressure or slow heart beats when tested.
In addition, they did not show signs of heart block - a condition in which the signal from the organ's upper chamber is impaired.
Senior author of the study Karthik Ananth said: "We believe regadenoson to be a safe and well tolerated medication for this specialised group of patients without causing any significant adverse heart issues."
According to the NHS, coronary heart disease is the biggest killer in the UK and it affects a quarter of all men and one in six women.
Each year, around 300,000 people have an attack, it notes.
