Hygiene standards at hospital criticised

The hygiene standards of a medical centre based in the south of England have been criticised.
In an assessment conducted by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), it was found that East Surrey Hospital was substandard.
The watchdog - which regulates health and adult social care services provided by the NHS, local authorities, private firms and voluntary organisations - failed the facility on three of 16 measures of a hygiene code.
Commenting on the findings, the CQC stated: "On inspection, we found evidence that the trust has breached the regulation to protect patients, workers and others from the risk of acquiring a healthcare-associated infection".
Responding to the report, the Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust said swift action has been taken.
The CQC acknowledged that there was no cause for concern over 13 hygiene measures at the hospital and areas of improvement were discovered in the remaining three.
