Cardiac specialists perform new procedure in Lancashire hospital

Cardiac specialists based in east Lancashire have performed a surgical technique which is new to the area.
Dr Ravi Singh, Dr John McDonald and Dr Kanarath Balachandran from the Royal Blackburn Hospital conducted the first life-saving angioplasty operation, the Lancashire Telegraph reports.
Prior to this, people who required the operation had to go to either Blackpool or Manchester.
However, thanks to the arrival of new equipment at the medical centre - which has recently had around £110 million invested in it - surgeons can perform the treatment there.
Commenting on the development, Dr Singh said: "This is the culmination of a huge project, which has taken years of planning.
"The new facilities will be a real asset to the people of East Lancashire."
The first man to have the treatment was Peter South, who revealed he "jumped at the chance" to undergo the cardiac technique in Blackburn as opposed to a hospital located elsewhere.
