Register as an Dietitian
Wednesday 10th March 2010
An expert on dietary matters has noted that drinking wine is not the key to losing weight.
Commenting on the issue, Dr Jacquie Lavin, head of nutrition and research at Slimming World, said that while it is possible to slim down and still enjoy the beverage in moderation, it would be erroneous for people to think the drink can provide a solution to their excess body mass.
She made her comments in the wake of the release of research conducted by a team at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, which suggested that women who consume wine in moderation are less likely to put on weight than those who are teetotal.
It was found that 38 per cent of the group that refrained from drinking alcohol were found to have gained the most weight over a 13-year timeframe.
Ms Lavin added: "If you do enjoy the odd tipple don't try to cut it out completely as we know that banning the things you enjoy can lead to cravings that are difficult to control."
