Council's decision 'may anger ODPs'

People with jobs as operating department practitioners (ODPs) at a UK medical centre may be among those angry about the local authority's decision to close a surgical theatre.
Bridgnorth District Council has shut down the facility at Bridgnorth Hospital in preparation for repairs, although due to expenses issues, the project has not yet begun, the Shropshire Star reports.
Although local health bosses have made assurances that the closures are not permanent, the move has caused controversy in the area.
Former council leader Elizabeth Yeomans said: "Not only is the decision to shut the theatre before it was necessary absolutely scandalous, but it puts extra pressure on services in neighbouring hospitals."
She called on local people to fight the closure at the hospital, which is run by the Shropshire Primary Care Trust.
Bosses at the organisation - which was formed in April 2002 and took over many of the roles of the former Shropshire Health Authority - admitted they closed the theatre before they had finalised contracts for its revamp.
