Hospital staff criticised over hygiene

Disciplinary action is being taken against two members of a staff at a hospital in Peterborough, it has emerged.
The workers were found to be breaking rules governing hand hygiene, the Peterborough Evening Telegraph reports.
Chris Wilkinson, director of nursing at Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, revealed the information during a meeting of the NHS Peterborough board.
Commenting on the Care Quality Commission's determination that staff are now compliant with procedures after concerns were raised over hygiene standards, she said: "In January and February, a couple of staff members, once challenged, failed to undertake what was required of them. They are going through the disciplinary process."
The news source noted that the board had heard in January how some senior doctors were putting patients at risk by not using sanitation points while on hospital rounds.
Employing more than 3,000 people, the Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is responsible for almost 600 beds across all its sites.
