Gloucestershire hospitals still shut due to hygiene concerns

The outbreak of a bug at hospitals in Gloucestershire has kept a number of wards closed.
According to the Gloucestershire Echo, people are being asked not to visit relatives and friends as part of the efforts to control the spread of the diarrhoea and vomiting illness.
Health officials explained that five wards at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital are shut, in addition to four at Cheltenham General Hospital.
Dr Jim Stone of the local NHS trust was quoted as saying: "The continuation of precautionary measures is an essential part of our role to protect patients and control the spread of the illness."
Maternity ward visits are not affected, although only parents and carers are permitted to enter children's wards at the site.
Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust - which serves around 600,000 people and employs more than 6,000 - was formed in 2002 and also runs the Delancey Assessment and Rehabilitation Hospital in Cheltenham.
