Radiography used for drink initiative

An initiative to encourage consumers to avoid drinking too much alcohol recently took place in South Shields.
North-east alcohol office Balance used X-rays of people's bodies who were suffering from diseases related to abuse of the substance, the Shields Gazette reports.
The organisation - which claims to be the first of its kind in the country and aims to inspire changes in the way individuals drink alcohol - took the radiography images to a supermarket car park to encourage people to think about consumption levels.
It will also be there on Saturday (March 6th) to target more people.
The idea is for shoppers to come face to face with a life-sized X-ray of a human which has medical problems caused by excessive boozing.
Figures indicate that more than half of drinkers in the north-east wrongly believe that alcohol only damages health if people regularly get drunk or binge drink.
