Pharmacist complains of lack of medical supplies

A pharmacist in Swindon has highlighted problems with obtaining drugs from suppliers.
Richard Thomas, who runs a chain of five of the businesses in the area, told the Swindon Advertiser that difficulties have arisen when attempting to source medicines that are not kept in large supply on premises.
The newspaper noted that a shortage of drugs has been blamed on organisations selling drugs intended for the UK on the continent instead, as a better price can be found in Europe.
And Mr Thomas observed: "When we request some items we are told that the quantities that we can obtain are severely restricted - and in some cases, they have none in stock."
David Price, director of policy at the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (RPSGB) added that it is simply a "matter of time" before patients face serious problems because they have to go without medicines.
The RSPGB is regulated and represents the profession in the UK, although a new General Pharmaceutical Council is set to be established this year.
