Audiology departments in Hertfordshire to install new kits

Audiology departments in Hertfordshire are to benefit from the installation of new kits designed to help the hard of hearing.
The resource is to be made available in hospitals and GP surgeries and it includes various signs and badges, as well as advice about their visits to medical centres.
It has been developed by the Hertfordshire Hearing Advisory Service, which is an independent charity that aims to provide help and advice and operates a drop-in centre.
The organisation's chief executive officer Philip Linnegar pointed out that going into hospital can be stressful enough, but for those who suffer hearing problems, it is even worse.
He added: "People who are deaf or hard of hearing can struggle to communicate with hospital staff, which is not just isolating ... but can result in misdiagnosis and incorrect treatment."
The new kit is a "simple and cost-effective" way of improving communication between medical professionals and patients, Mr Linnegar concluded.
