Couple front cardiac awareness campaign

A couple are heading a campaign designed to raise awareness of a heart condition.
Hugh and Jane Malcahey's daughter Madeline died at the age of two from sudden cardiac death syndrome, the Cotswold Journal reports.
In order to draw attention to the medical problem - which kills around 100,000 people in the UK each year, according to NHS figures - the pair are spearheading an initiative run by the charity Cardiac Risk in the Young.
Mr Malcahey, who is now the chairman of the organisation, is to speak at a hotel this week about the dangers of the condition and show pictures of youngsters who have died from previously undetected heart defects.
Commenting on the medical problem, founder of the trust Alison Cox said: "80 per cent of the young people who die from these tragedies have had no symptoms and it is only through screening that the condition can be identified."
