Firm donates money to aid biomedical researchers

Firm donates money to aid biomedical researchers

Monday 1st March 2010

A company has donated money to an institution to help further studies into breast cancer.

In a special Mothers' Day promotion, Hallmark Cards - which celebrates its centenary this year - gave £25,000 to biomedical researchers at Leeds University to help them examine the disease, the Yorkshire Evening Post reports.

The money is part of a £250,000 Cards for a Cure campaign being run by the firm.

Tamsyn Johnston-Hughes from the organisation said: "Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK and affects many thousands of women and a number of men every year, as well as impacting on the lives of friends and family."

She went on to say that research such as that carried out by the University of Leeds is significant because one day, it may lead to a cure for people with the condition.

Hallmark's Cards for a Cure initiative directly benefits researchers on the ground and helps progress to be made, Ms Johnston-Hughes added.
