Hospital criticised over hygiene standards

Dunfermline's Queen Margaret Hospital has been criticised by the Healthcare Environment Inspectorate for not being clean enough.
The report said some equipment and linen could have a higher level of cleanliness, although NHS Fife's urgent cleaning team were commended.
Issues which the inspectorate called to be addressed included putting standard infection control procedures in place and reviewing the condition of bed mattresses.
NHS dress code and hand hygiene policies must also be fully complied with.
Health secretary Nicola Sturgeon said: "NHS Fife has since published an improvement plan and they have given an assurance that all of the action areas identified in the report are being addressed."
The hospital was praised for having signs in place to remind people to wash their hands, as well as hand washing facilities being provided at the entrance to wards.
NHS Fife says its emphasis is on creating a culture to prevent people from smoking, as well as improving sexual help and addressing alcohol's health-related problems.
