Taking aspirin could boost people's chances of surviving breast cancer, a team of biomedical scientists has revealed.
According to researchers at Harvard Medical School, women who took the drug twice a week cut the risk of dying from the disease by 71 per cent.
In addition, such people were said to be 60 per cent less likely to have their cancer spread.
Study leader Dr Michelle Holmes remarked: "This is the first study to find that aspirin can significantly reduce the risk of cancer spread and death for women who have been treated for early stage breast cancer."
If the discovery is confirmed in other clinical trials, taking the drug may become another low-cost and simple way to help women with breast cancer live longer, she added.
According to Cancer Research UK, the disease is the most common form of cancer in the UK and around 125 women are diagnosed with it each day.
