Missed phlebotomy appointments 'costing NHS'

Patients who miss their appointments with medical professionals with phlebotomy jobs are costing the NHS cash, it has been noted.
According to an article in Spalding Today, nearly £120,000 has been wasted in the Johnson Community Hospital as a result of people failing to meet their allocated time slots for blood testing and other outpatient assessments.
New figures cited by the publication reveal that £119,279 has been lost, as well as 445 staff hours, due to such activity.
Between September and February, 585 patients missed phlebotomy appointments, while a further 860 did not make it to outpatient bookings.
Established eight months ago, the Johnson Community Hospital serves the people of South Holland and is run by the United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust.
It provides a range of services, including theatres for gynaecology and orthopaedics, physiotherapy provisions, a 32-bed unit for inpatients and a minor injuries unit, which is open seven days a week from 08:00 GMT until 18:00 GMT.
