Robot is "amazing" resource for pharmacy students

A new robot has been described as "amazing" in terms of the way in which it helps pharmacy students bring on their skills.
Called Simon, the device is life-sized and it has a number of features which make it seem like a real patient.
For example, it can sweat and vomit if it reacts badly to a drug administered to it.
The robot is being used by students at the University of Bath, which was established in 1966 and is located on a campus around a mile outside the city centre.
Commenting on the technology, Dr Denise Taylor, senior teaching fellow in clinical pharmacy, said: "He ... gives students a chance to practise examination skills, including diagnosis and treatment of patients, in a safe environment."
Meanwhile, head of pharmacy practice Professor Marjorie Weiss added that people with pharmacy jobs are increasingly expected to offer more patient-facing services, meaning the robot is of particular use.
