Hospitals in East Lancashire 'performed well in hygiene assessment'

Hospitals located in East Lancashire performed impressively in a recent hygiene audit.
Medical centres in the area were recently assessed by the Care Quality Commission, the Lancashire Telegraph reports.
The organisation - which is the new health and social care regulator for England - made spot checks of nine such institutions and found no breach of any regulations.
Responding to the results, Lynn Wissett, deputy chief executive at the East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust said they reflect the "pride and commitment" of staff members.
She added: "Regular hand-hygiene spot checks and audits are carried out in every ward and department. Any area of concern is reported to matrons and clinical directors, with extra checks put in place."
The inspections took place at the end of January and were unannounced.
No patients in the trusts hospitals - of which there are four - have developed MRSA in more than six weeks, it was pointed out.
