Happiness 'reduces risk of heart problems'

Leading a happy life reduces individuals' risks of developing heart problems and thus having to seek the help of someone with a cardiac physiology job.
This is according to new research conducted by the Columbia University Medical Centre in New York, which revealed that increased so-called 'positive effect' - which is the experience of pleasurable emotions - led to a lowering of heart disease.
A decline of around a fifth at each point on a five-point scale measuring levels of happiness was detected.
Commenting on the results, lead researcher Karina Davidson said: "If [future] trials support our findings, then these results will be incredibly important in describing specifically what clinicians and patients could do to improve health."
Recently, a team at the University Of Warwick found that getting a sufficient intake of vitamin D can increase heart health, with exposure to sunlight and eating a diet rich in foods like salmon and mackerel identified as ways of achieving this.
