Gordon Brown praises pharmacies

Prime minister Gordon Brown has revealed in a letter his thoughts about independent community pharmacies, it has been reported.
His correspondence opened the second Sigma Conference in Shanghai and called such facilities "integral", Chemist and Druggist stated.
It was presented to the Sigma conference by Labour MP for Watford Claire Ward, from the Ministry of Justice.
According to the publication, Mr Brown said: "In particular, the independent retail pharmacy is an integral part of our NHS, helping to deliver essential services including the provision of medicines and health improvements."
One such example could be the work of West View Pharmacy, in Brus Corner, Hartlepool, which recently announced free checks to those aged between 40 and 74 who have no existing cardiovascular problems and who have not already had an NHS check.
The Hartlepool Mail said checks for kidney disease, heart disease and stroke were to be carried out.
Mr Brown added that the wider pharmaceutical industry was "of vital importance, both to the UK economy and to community health".
