Stammer sufferer 'benefits from speech therapy technique'

Sixth-former Adam Black has spoken about how as soon as he walked out of speech therapists' doors his stammer would go back to normal once in the real world.
However, all that changed when he started on the McGuire programme, a four-day intensive course which the Daily Mail said is "not for the fainthearted".
Physical techniques such as deep breathing are taught, along with the importance of eye contact and the psychological reasons behind speaking in public.
The final test is being sent out to speak to 100 strangers, asking for the time or directions.
Mr Black told the newspaper: "I couldn't believe I was doing it. Three years on I'm still speaking fluently, I love to chat on the phone and still get a kick out of asking for directions."
As well as the breathing techniques and psychological assessment, the McGuire programme includes constant practice and using former stammerers as coaches.
Researchers at the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders recently reported that stuttering may be a result of a mutation in a gene.
