Hand hygiene 'is key for hospital doctors'

People with hospital doctor jobs, as well as others who are employed in such environments, must be fastidious when it comes to hand hygiene, a matron for infection prevention has noted.
Kim Wilson from the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust said such cleanliness is "key", the North-West Evening Mail reports.
The medical professional is employed to visit hospitals within the trust - which runs a number of centres, including Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary and Westmorland General Hospital - to ensure they are complying with hygiene standards.
Ms Wilson added: "Everybody is being trained and a lot have now been assessed on using the seven stages of the Ayliffe hand-washing technique."
This does not just apply to clinical staff, she noted, but rather to all workers, including cleaners and plumbers.
Such precautions are necessary in order to minimise the risk of the spread of infections across the hospital.
