Educating children about diets 'could reduce obesity'

Childhood obesity could be reduced if children knew more about nutrition, it has been claimed.
According to Rich Leigh, founder of Fat Free Fitness, education concerning eating habits should begin young, potentially meaning dieticians should play a part.
He stated: "Parents know less than their children in many cases, so in my mind, teaching the young whilst they're young can't begin soon enough."
While mothers and fathers should be aware of how much and what their offspring consume and how it will affect them, to blame them for the obesity epidemic would be to jump on "an already overloaded bandwagon", he added.
Mr Leigh's comments come after research findings were released by the Food Standards Agency showing that girls aged 11 to 18 consume on average the lowest amount of fruit, vegetables, nuts and seeds of any demographic.
In addition, people in this category were often found to have too low an iron intake.
