Refer an Cardiac Physiologist
Tuesday 9th February 2010
Patients are benefiting from efforts to improve treatment for those who suffer from cardiac problems and strokes.
That is the observation of Martin James, clinical lead of the Peninsula Heart and Stroke Network, who told the Express and Echo that people can benefit from appropriate services faster.
The government-funded programme is working with primary care trusts, the South West Ambulance Service and other bodies to help those at risk of heart disease and strokes.
And Mr James noted: "The network has been supporting the [Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital's] many stroke services, including a pilot project to help people who have a mini stroke out of hours."
He was also quoted as saying the lessons learnt from the initiative will be shared with other organisations in order to improve care in general across the area.
Around 35,000 people in Exeter, east Devon and mid-Devon are served by Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital.
