Hospitals in Gloucestershire 'successfully fighting superbugs'

Medical staff at Gloucestershire hospitals are succeeding in reducing the number of superbugs on the wards, figures have indicated.
According to the Forester, cases in which patients contracted MRSA at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and Cheltenham General Hospital declined over the last two years.
C diff infections were also more than halved in 2009, with 131 cases being identified - compared to 294 in the previous year.
Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which became one of the first such bodies when it was established in July 1994, has been focusing on hand hygiene.
The news source noted that employees were given cards detailing the five points at which hands should be washed and gelled, including before and after contact with a patient.
And director of nursing Maggie Arnold commented: "The safety of our patients is an absolute priority. These figures are an excellent reflection of the hard work our staff have put in, but we must not be complacent."
