A new network designed to offer support to families affected by inherited heart conditions has been launched in Scotland.
Provided by NHS Tayside and funded by NHS Scotland, the Familial Arrhythmia Network of Scotland (Fans) service is to provide care and support for patients, carers and relatives of those who suffer from arrhythmia, stv.tv reports.
The news provider claimed that around 50 people die each year in the country as a result of the health complaint.
Commenting on the new provision, Dr Anna Maria Choy, a consultant cardiologist at Ninewells Hospital, said: "With Fans, Scotland is leading the way in providing a model for how families affected by inherited cardiac conditions can receive effective healthcare through a national network approach."
According to the NHS, heart rhythm problems are one of the top reasons why people go to hospital in the UK and they are experienced by more than one million patients each year.
