CBI calls for healthcare shift

The Confederation of British Industry (CBI) has called for changes to the way in which healthcare is provided in the UK.
In measures which would impact on hospital doctors and other professionals in the industry, it recommended that services are made more convenient for patients.
A report released by the organisation called 'Best of health: Improving lives through smarter care', the business group - which lobbies for UK firms on national and international issues - claimed that the NHS is targeting resources in the wrong places.
It suggested that too many patients are treated in hospitals because of a lack of alternatives.
"At present, resources are skewed in favour of hospital care, but there is considerable scope for treating more people at home, near their workplace or the high street," the CBI stated.
In order to meet the changing demands of the population, the NHS must adapt to new conditions, it urged.
