Staff at Milton Keynes Hospital have urged visitors who may be feeling unwell to stay away.
According to MK News, concerns have arisen over the potential spread of novovirus, which is known as the winter diarrhoea and vomiting bug.
Three wards at the facility have been closed to new admissions as a result of cases of the virus and further measures are being taken to help prevent spreading.
These include urging members of the public not to visit if it is not necessary and if they think they may be ill.
A spokesman for the hospital, which treated nearly 20,400 people in the 2006-07 year, was quoted as saying that hand hygiene practices have been reinforced and cleaning activities will continue to be reviewed on a regular basis.
Commenting on the closures, he added: "This is to help ensure that the number of patients affected is kept to an absolute minimum and these wards will be reopened as quickly as possible."
