Hygiene improvements noted in hospital

A medical centre in Scotland has been praised by the Healthcare Environment Inspectorate (HEI) for improving its standards of hygiene.
Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, part of the NHS Grampian group, was identified in October as having a 'concerning' standard of practice for preventing the spread of infections and ordered to make changes.
The new report was released last week and showed that in a visit five weeks later, HEI inspectors were encouraged at the progress which had been made in the hospital's hygiene efforts and that the establishment was on its way to meeting the original report's recommendations.
"We fully expect that NHS Grampian will continue to action the requirements and recommendations as a matter of priority," said Susan Brimelow, chief inspector of the standards body.
NHS Quality Improvement Scotland is also working with the HEI in order to provide advice on how to carry out effective clinical practice and promote greater standards in the industry.
