Hygiene 'improving at London-based hospital'

A hospital in Essex has been praised for its efforts to improve the standards of hygiene in the healthcare facility.
John Baron, Conservative MP for Billericay, has been assured by Dr Bill Moyes of the government health watchdog Monitor that Basildon Hospital has made progress in keeping the premises clean.
The building was the target of a report released by the Care Quality Commission in November, which called for a taskforce to be sent in to drastically improve its hygiene practices.
Mr Baron told the Echo: "It is good news progress has been made on a number of fronts, including those of hygiene and mortality rates. The management is responding well and patients can feel reassured there is evidence of material improvement."
Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was one of the first to be established in the UK and it currently serves the 400,000 population of its region in London.
