Pharmacists offer heart checkups

A scheme hoping to eradicate the threat of heart disease is allowing Banbury patients to benefit from free heart check-ups.
The town's Knights Pharmacy and Cross Pharmacy are offering the checks from now until March for those aged between 40 and 74, the Oxford Mail reports.
NHS Oxfordshire's health improvement practitioner Claire Laurent told the newspaper that the initiative is forming part of the organisation's Preventing Cardiovascular Disease project.
She went on to explain that specific areas of Oxfordshire are being targeted, including Cowley, Rose Hill and Blackbird Leys.
The check-ups have been welcomed by Iain Macpherson, managing director of Fiddes Payne, who told the Oxford Mail: "We are encouraging all staff to take 20 minutes out of their working day to safeguard their health and I certainly will be."
"This is a fantastic initiative and we are more than happy to allow staff to take the time to ensure their good health."
The planning and management of the county's health services are the responsibility of Oxfordshire Primary Care Trust, whose priority it is to improve healthcare by engaging with the local population.
