Operation department practitioners may benefit from learning tool'

People with jobs as operation department practitioners may benefit from a new learning resource from the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement.
The organisation - which aims to develop and spread new ways of working, technology and world class leadership in public healthcare - has launched two more modules from its Productive Operating Theatre, bjhcim reports.
Called Teamworking and Scheduling, they are designed to increase patient safety and reduce the risk of delay or cancellation of operations.
Amanda Fegan, lead associate at NHS Institute for the Productive Operating Theatre, said: "Operating theatres are one of the most expensive resources we use in the NHS and a high pressure working environment where patient safety is paramount."
The programme shows how much trusts can benefit from improved communication and introducing a more collaborative approach, she added.
According to the expert, healthcare providers need to excel at both teamwork and scheduling before they can claim to offer a high-quality service.
