A number of NHS patients have been receiving prescriptions free of charge from a Skelmersdale pharmacy.
Due to security issues connected with handling cash, the Skelmersdale NHS Walk-in-Centre is unable to accept money from those using its services, Champion Newspapers reports.
The outlet is run by NHS Central Lancashire, which provides healthcare services for people living in Chorley, Leyland, Ormskirk, Preston and Skelmersdale.
Commenting on the payment problem, chief operating officer at the organisation Mark Hindle admitted that there have been "issues" with collecting money in the past.
While invoices are sent to the homes of medication recipients, "very few" have been paid, he stated.
Mr Hindle added: "We are therefore planning to collect payments electronically using debit and credit cards to enable people to pay before they leave."
One of those to have received a prescription without handing over money is Skelmersdale north ward councillor Neil Furey, who said he was "shocked" by the lack of a charge.
